Bunning's Warehouse - Where lowest prices are just the beginning ( google it ) I also posted earlier today so please read that too..

So -
We GOT Malkovich on Saturday at 1:30, it didn't take a lot and we were on the road to IKEA - 2 hours later we left IKEA with 3 T towels, 2 plastic bowls a giant hook, 1 handrail and 2 massive bits of wood which once may have belonged to a shelving unit.
These were in the reject section and much to our delight fitted perfectly with our plans.
The couple that sold us the van were the nicest people and took their time to explain to us the correct way to register the vehicle and how to apply for various permits.. Not that we really needed the advice because El has spent the last 6 weeks reading every publication under the sun on van ownership and the correct way to be a motorist in Australia!! I received an email from her the other day - I have typed it below to give you an idea of what I'm dealing with...

Morning Baker
Rego - done
Parking - done
Stamp duty - done
Transfer of ownership - done
Emailed van owners - done
Insurance - done
Shopping - done
See you later

If you want to be made to feel like you're not pulling you weight….

Well with all the right paper work we hit the highway and on Sunday we took our first trip to Bunning's Warehouse. If I could explain how wonderful it really is in there I would, but it just doesn't translate into words.
Here is an outline of the experience -

Me - aimlessly ( yet happily ) wandering down an isle full of screws
Bunning's Man - Hello Miss, do you need any help?
Me - Yes please
Bunning's Man - What are you looking for
Me - I want some of those things that you use to attach brackets to a van with and some of the things that you screw on the back so they don't fall off.
Bunning's Man - OK they're in Isle 37 - follow me

Another time, I approach a wood man ( a man in charge of the timber department ) and I ask him if he has any off cuts of wood. The man clearly thinks I'm a nut case and instead of perhaps asking me what type of wood, how much wood, the purpose of the wood he kindly takes me to the isle of pre-cut wood and asks me what wood I like the look of!
I point to a bit - He asks how much I would like, I tell him and he cuts it all up for me.

The man in the carpet section is just as helpful guiding us towards a marine carpet or a rubber backed variety to avoid spoiling, the lady who helps us with our fly netting also gives us the choice of fine wire mesh. And in the tool section we are handed the cheapest saw available that cuts on both the push and the pull stroke.

It is the sort of place that you end up wanting to work in because everyone is so enthusiastic and knowledgeable that you feel like you've just taken a class in DIY.

Anyway by the time we got home it was too dark to spring into action and we forgot to buy the brackets! On the plus side it means we get to go back to Bunning's this evening and buy some sandpaper, the brackets, some primer, and really just soak up the atmosphere, Brilliant.

With all the excitement surrounding Malkovich's arrival I have neglected to tell you that quite accidentally we have ended up embroiling ourselves in dinner club, 2 weeks ago I arranged that El and I and 3 friends would go for dinner at a Russian restaurant I liked the look of. They were fully booked so an alternative was suggested and we went there instead. I decided we should try again, and Irene, one of the other girls tried to book us a table ( again they were full) so we ended up on Saturday night in a Lebanese place with 4 times as much food as we could eat with a waiter who was 4 foot nothing and falling about drunk listening to the most eclectic selection of songs sung by a guy armed with a guitar, who was sporadically interrupted by a pre recording of Happy Birthday and the birdie song. It was incredibly funny and I can only say that I am looking forward to the next outing ..
Well I'm off ( to Bunning's ) speak soon
Love Leah and El
xx
